“Muddy” Car Wash Sensory Play

A muddy car wash activity that smells like chocolate?! Yes please!!

This is one is a favourite go-to activity for my busy boys. It is so easy to set up and I know they will drop pretty much anything to play (including picking on each other 😜)

What you need:

  • 2 bins
  • Cocoa powder
  • A squirt of soap
  • Water
  • Towels (I suggest at least a large towel and a hand towel)
  • Small cars/vehicles (nothing with batteries)
  • Scrub brushes/sponges

To set up:

  1. In one bin, mix about a 1/4 cup of cocoa powder with a tablespoon of water at a time until its the perfect goopy muddy consistency! A little goes a long way here, you really just need enough mud to get your cars dirty! If you did want a fuller sensory bin of “mud” I recommend adding some cornstarch with the cocoa to bulk it up!
  2. Fill the second bin with a couple squirts of soap and some warm water then whisk it up to make some bubbles! (Feel free to add a third bin with plain water for a rinse station after the soapy wash)
  3. Set the bins on a large towel and have a hand towel ready to dry and polish all those freshly washed cars!
  4. Toss in some scrub brushes or sponges and you’re ready to go!

That’s all there is to it! All that’s left to do is let your little ones roll their cars around in the “mud” and wash them clean while you enjoy the scent of cocoa that fills the air 😉

If you have big car fans like my boys this activity is a must! If cars aren’t their thing you could change it up and toss some animal figurines in the mud and give them a nice bubble bath too!

I hope your little ones love this as much as mine do, and may you be inspired to play always!

❤️ Hannah
